Flauguissimo: Vikings and Vagabonds
From 25 October to 26 October United Kingdom / London
When a young Johan Helmich Roman left Stockholm for London in 1715, he was but one of many Swedes to seek their fortune in foreign lands. While Roman later returned north, Johan Agrell did not. Having travelled extensively, he successfully ended his days as Kapellmeister in the German city of Nuremberg. Others, like German composer Joseph Martin Kraus, made their way from the continent to Sweden and made enormous contributions to Swedish musical life. In this 18th-century Swedish programme, Flauguissimo, joined by singers Emily Atkinson and Thomas Guthrie, will treat us to Roman's glorious Wedding Cantata (sung in Swedish) and his Taffel-music Cantata celebrating a New Year's feast at the court of King Frederick I and Queen Ulrika Eleonora.
