Festival Les BaroQuiales
From 06 July to 14 July France / Sospel - Breil - Saorge
For this 2024 edition, the theme of the BaroQuiales festival is South American Baroque Music in its Golden Age. A mix of concerts, theatre and heritage: seven exotic days to bring this music from the New World out of the shadows, from 6 to 13 July!
First up is the Comet Muzicke Ensemble and tenor Francisco Mañalich, who take us down the steep paths of the Andes Cordillera for a concert-reading exploring the work of the indigenous composer, noblewoman and nun Francisca Apomayta, accompanied by musician-logue-violist Daniela Maltrain. Also returning to the festival is Ensemble El Sol, for a Noche de alegria celebrating an imaginary Christmas a few months ahead of schedule. Eat, sing and dance until the stars come out, a moment of meditation and prayer, and discover the Vilancico, a musical atmosphere charged with gentleness and poetry led by Chloé Sévère on harpsichord and the voices of Capucine Keller and Claire-Elie Tenet.<hr class=‘break-tag’ />A day with the ensemble La Chambre at the Monastère de Saorge, for an original musical tour of the Franciscans' musical heritage. An evening to enjoy Spanish ballads under the stars and olive trees with a duo from the Americas, Canadian this time, Ménestrels, Jannel Lucyk and Kerry Bures. Then it's back to Argentina for the end of the trip, with a week of choral singing classes and a closing concert, in the company of the festival's workshop choir and the Quintet Ad Libitum, featuring Martin Palmeri's world-famous Misa Buenos Aires (Misatango), and a chance to vibrate to the tango and melodies of Piazzola, the modern result of the musical heritage of the Golden Age. You'll find mezzo-soprano Margaux Toqué, Jeremy Vannereau on bandoneon and Romain Moullé on piano, all under the direction of the festival's artistic director and conductor, Jean-Sébastien Beauvais.
Once again this year, the Baroquiales will be taking you on a journey along the Roya-Bevera route, with stops in Sospel, Breil and Saorge for concerts, dramatised tours, musical visits, lectures, choral training courses, concert snacks and a podium for amateur musicians. Check out the programme and... Vaya con Dios, Amigos!
