At the foot of Roy - Adrien Mabire and Jean-Luc Ho
30 November France / Amilly
Instruments so symbolic of French history, the organ and trumpet represent the art of French music, synonymous with grandiloquence. In the 17th century, when Louis XIV was the great king, a genuine royal desire to dominate Europe through culture was born. ‘France must have the most beautiful music in Europe,’ said the Sun King, marking a turning point in the establishment of the Grande Ecurie and the Maison Militaire. Whether outdoors, in the chapel for the Te Deum, or as announcement music, trumpets were everywhere, accompanying the king every day. In this century of conquests, France's musical greatness and its cultural victory over its rivals are the subject of this programme.
