"In Wilhelmina's footsteps" - concert and album pre-release
Camerata Øresund invites you to an atmospheric concert filled with music and stories from one of the most exciting court environments of the 18th century - and celebrates the pre-release of the ensemble's upcoming album with the same title.
With this concert, Camerata Øresund paints a vivid musical portrait of Margravine Wilhelmina von Bayreuth - composer, author, patron of the arts and sister of Frederick the Great. At the age of 22, she moved to Bayreuth and transformed a small court into a vibrant artistic center where music, philosophy and art were allowed to flourish.
With this program, we give you an insight into this exuberant court environment. Wilhelmina herself composed both operas and chamber music, and the concert alternates between her own works and music by composers who were part of her circle. A particular gem is her own harpsichord concerto - a rarely performed work that oozes both virtuosity and a refined musical language.
Wilhelmina maintained a close correspondence with her brother, Frederick the Great, and the philosopher Voltaire throughout her life - and in her later years she wrote down her memoirs. The concert interweaves music with Wilhelmina's own words, giving the audience an intimate insight into her life and work - and the voice of a woman who claimed her place in history with strength and conviction.
