What era do we live in? What paths lie open to us? In the search for answers, the past, with its traditions, has always offered a valuable treasure trove of insights. Their voices speak in very different languages. The musical rhetoric of the Baroque was one of them. The Latin language, frozen in its perfection, became immortal in a similar way. Even today, it remains highly influential culturally. Without realising it, influencers and politicians employ the techniques of the approximately 2,000-year-old rhetoric of antiquity. In ancient Rome, facial expressions, body language and gestures were regarded as essential means of reinforcing what was said. Under the guidance of Sigrid T’Hooft, an expert in historical gesture from Ghent, three students and the soloists of the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla explore the dreams of Virgil’s Aeneas.

Excerpts from Virgil’s “Aeneid”, trio sonatas by Jean-Féry Rebel, and arias by Juan Francés de Iribarren, Sebastián Durón and José de Nebra.
In collaboration with Humboldt-Gymnasium, supported by the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música (INAEM). This programme is partly supported by a grant from the state institution Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
