The tiefsaits string trio accompanies Walther Ruttmann’s silent film *Berlin: Symphony of a Great City*, a film about 1920s Berlin. Added to this are Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”, performed with great flexibility in tempo and time, so that, in interaction with the film, timeless questions about our perception of time are explored.
Film “Berlin. A Symphony of the Big City ’ (Walther Ruttmann, Berlin 1927) as well as works by Domenico Gabrielli, Johann Sebastian Bach and literary quotations from Franz Hessel’s ‘Spazieren in Berlin’ (1929) and Kurt Tucholsky’s ‘Augen in der Großstadt’ (1930), plus a world premiere by Friedemann Stolte.
