From London to Edinburgh

06 June/18h00 France / Mazan

In the 17th and 18th centuries, London was at the cutting edge: as a major European cultural capital, it was the first to host paid concerts, open to all, in taverns, gardens and ballrooms. A taste for the tender, rhythmic tunes of Scottish, Welsh and Irish music took hold in London’s salons. The English composer John Playford in the 17th century and the Scottish composer James Oswald in the 18th century immediately struck the right balance between traditional and classical music, Italian elegance and Celtic style. Here is a joyful programme full of ballads and dances that deserve to be heard once more under the stars!
