Nikolaus Harnoncourt: The fact that the term homeland [Heimat] has been insanely damaged in one generation - actually even more recently - should not lead to it being completely erased....The connection between a person and a landscape or a political community is something undeniable. One must not simply throw away valuable concepts and, because something has been misused, sully the thing itself. ...The use of homeland as a reflection on one's own, which threatens to be absorbed into the general, can already be found in Greek antiquity. The negative and the divisive have always been very important. (on the occasion of the Styriarte 2010)
