Here are the women who changed the history of late sixteenth-century music, exploring the transitional era in which the new recitative style, centered on the single voice accompanied by instruments, joined polyphony. It pays homage to pioneers such as Maddalena Casulana, the first woman to publish her compositions, and to the extraordinary sisters Francesca and Settimia Caccini, heirs of a real musical phenomenon that even sparked an intriguing “musical espionage” among the courts of the time. The program combines their works, also taken from historical manuscripts, with masterpieces by Monteverdi, Marenzio and Giulio Caccini.
