Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto (B minor, Op. 23) and Edvard Grieg’s only piano concerto (A minor, Op. 16) are among the most beloved works in the piano repertoire. These pieces embody some of the most moving and virtuosic qualities of their composers. It is a rare treat to hear both concertos in the same programme performed on period instruments, when a true dream team takes the stage at Tapiola Hall. Conducted by Jan Söderblom, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra will be joined by period music stars Alexander Melnikov and Olga Pashchenko as soloists.
The concert opens with Fanny Hensel’s only orchestral work, an overture in C major composed for Berlin’s famous Sunday concerts.
