CHORAL WORKSHOP - 6th to 12th of July 2026
Location : Sanctuary of ND de Laghet (Alpes-Maritimes, France)
Music : Handel "Alexander’s Feast" (1736), or the Power of Music
Alexander’s Feast, or the Power of Music, is an oratorio composed in the great English tradition of Odes to Saint Cecilia, with a text written by the classical poet John Dryden in 1697. Although relatively unknown, or at least rarely performed today, this piece was one of the composer's most popular choral works during his lifetime.
Since 2018, the Sospel BaroQuiales Festival has offered major educational and musical projects in exceptional training and living conditions.
This major annual summer workshop in the beautiful Roya-Bévera Valley will once again highlight England within its theme of Alexander the Great, featuring Handel's musical ode, Alexander's Feast, an oratorio whose theatricality and scope foreshadow the future Messiah.
The ensemble La Chambre, soloists and orchestra, will accompany the six days of intense and meticulous work, under the direction of conductor Jean-Sébastien Beauvais and supported by a top-level professional teaching team, for an unforgettable performance.
One concert will conclude this work on July 12th, closing the festival in the Sospel's Cathedral with a beautiful and strong immersive show !
