Cappella Mariana & The Breathtaking Collective: La nobiltà di Milano
Belgium / Antwerp
Like Venice and Florence, the Spanish Habsburg duchy of Milan was a musical hub in 17th-century Italy. Between two outbreaks of the plague, a new genre emerged: the canzon-motetti – enchanting musical dialogues in which voices and instruments move between fiery contrasts and the unification of sound.
At AMUZ, Cappella Mariana, featuring the renowned sopranos Hana Blažíková and Barbora Kabátková, joins forces with Bruce Dickey’s Breathtaking Collective to bring this repertoire to life. The programme not only includes these rarely performed works but also recently rediscovered madrigals by Francesco Rognoni, alongside colourful compositions by his brother Giovanni Domenico, Agostino Soderini, Giovanni Paolo Cima, and their contemporaries.
A festive tribute to a forgotten chapter in the chronicles of the early Baroque.
