The evening begins at the Schnütgen Museum with the Ensemble opia and the singer Bryan Benner. Monteverdi’s “Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” sets Torquato Tasso’s poem “Gerusalemme Liberata” to music and powerfully recounts the struggle between two lovers, false pride, religious conflicts and age-old enmities.
Works by Claudio Monteverdi, Salomone Rossi, Dario Castello, Giovanni Legrenzi, Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa, Antonio Bertali and others.
