A Ukrainian Christmas "Musica Sacra Ukraina"

From 18 December to 18 December Germany / Cologne

A Ukrainian Christmas celebration by Ensemble Partes as part of the special exhibition "Light in Dark Times: Medieval Stained Glass from the Khanenko Museum in Kyiv"

Ensemble Partes presents Ukrainian masterpieces of the Baroque and early Classical periods from the 17th and 18th centuries, when Kyiv and Lviv were crossroads of Western and Eastern musical traditions. This is particularly evident in the anonymously composed Partesny Concerti, a unique choral tradition blending Orthodox and Roman Catholic styles, found in this form only in Ukraine.

The program unites choral music from the rich tradition of these Partesny Concerti with works by Mykola Dyletsky, Andrii Raczynsky, and Maksym Berezovsky, who in some cases still incorporated Partesny elements but simultaneously composed in the new style of Classicism. From powerful twelve-part chants to refined miniatures, a magical winter wonderland unfolds.
