27th Magdeburg Telemann Festival
From 13 March to 22 March Germany / Magdeburg
True to the motto “Musik – Macht – Telemann” (Music – Power – Telemann), the selected works represent the sonorous portrayal of secular, sacred and divine power, but this is not the only reason why we can look forward to an opulent festival. It also honours Georg Philipp Telemann himself as the ‘musical power’ that connoisseurs and lovers in Europe saw in him. It presents the composer as an artistic personality who closely accompanied the transition from the baroque era to the age of enlightenment, whilst practising it himself by moving from courtly to urban service and thus to bourgeois values and sensibilities. He was remarkably successful in staging courtly power in his works and at the same time giving musical expression to the growing urban need for representation.
The festival programme spans an arc from aristocratic festive culture to church music, operas and serenades to chamber music gems. It shows Telemann as a tireless innovator, a mediator and an artistic authority whose music continues to move and inspire people to this day.

Brilliant trumpet fanfares, blaring horns and swirls of timpani sounds lend numerous concerts at the 27th Magdeburg Telemann Festival a magnificent splendour. May you experience moving, inspiring days in Magdeburg, the city of Telemann, and may the music touch you – powerfully and unforgettably.
