Phaedrus

Phaedrus - Spain

Phaedrus
Phaedrus revives the Renaissance traverso consort by performing Western polyphony from the 16th and 17th centuries. Trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, its international musicians bring diverse interpretations to historically informed performances. Although primarily a traverso quartet, they collaborate with singers and instrumentalists, exploring the links between the traverso and Renaissance voices and instruments.
Using flutes made by Giovanni Tardino, based on historical examples, Phaedrus combines refined beauty with humanistic and rhetorical traditions, drawing inspiration from Plato's Phaedrus, which celebrates divine inspiration and love in the arts.
