Venite, Exultemus - Motets for bass and violins - Concerto Soave

05 October 2024/ France / Marseille

André Campra (1660-1744)
Nicolas Bernier (1664-1734)

‍The motet for solo voice and two violins originated in Italy at the dawn of the seventeenth century, and was introduced to France not only by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, but also by Italians who travelled there.A symbol of the ‘Italian manner’, at the beginning of the eighteenth century it had two magnificent illustrators who were practically contemporaries: André Campra (1660-1744) and Nicolas Bernier (1664-1734).

‍Romain Bockler and Jean-Marc Aymes offer a programme dedicated to their motets for bass and violins, a rarer arrangement than that for soprano and violins, but one in which the two composers displayed magnificent inventiveness. In these works they achieve an admirable alliance of French elegance and nobility with Italian freshness, drama and naturalness.<hr class=‘break-tag’ />‍Concerto Soave
