Bach Cello Suites - Cyril Poulet

21 October 2023/20h30/ France / Lannion

Bach's Six Cello Suites, composed in Köthen between 1718 and 1723, form a group of compositions that are at once austere and seductive. Whereas in his day the cello was primarily an accompaniment instrument, with its own basso continuo characteristics and limited repertoire, Bach broke new ground by treating it as a solo instrument, exploiting its polyphonic potential. Noticed by William Christie and a pupil of Bruno Cocset, Cyril Poulet discovered the baroque cello in Geneva. From then on, he never left the gut strings. He will perform the first three suites.
