QUINTET: MOZART & BEETHOVEN
Per fiati e fortepiano
Fortepiano Ensemble
The quintets for fortepiano and woodwinds by Mozart (K 452) and Beethoven (op. 16) are unique in the so-called Classic period for their choice of instruments. Mozart called his quintet, first performed in 1784, "the best thing he ever wrote". Beethoven, inspired by Mozart, composed his quintet between 1796 and 1798; it was first performed in 1797, dedicated to Prince Schwarzenberg.
