Nel Giardino degli Oboi

17 August 2024/17h00/ Switzerland / Bern and Solothurn

Seedlings of the symphony and narcissus blossoms for oboe grow in the Sammartini brothers' garden.

Giuseppe Sammartini became the most famous oboist of the 18th century in London. His oboe concerto no. 12 in C major will be performed for the first time by soloist Benoît Laurent.
The symphonic works of his younger brother, Giovanni Battista, influenced European music history from his home town of Milan.
The programme will be enriched with oboe solos by Nicola Antonio Porpora and George Frideric Handel, which were composed especially for the oboist Giuseppe Sammartini, as well as a Serenada for oboe and plucked orchestra from ‘Don Juan’ by C. W. Gluck, a pupil of Giovanni Battista.
