In this hilarious and touching comedy by the great Neapolitan composer Giovanni Paisiello, Napoleon's future Kapellmeister, we find the great themes dear to the Age of Enlightenment: philosophy in mockery, the rise of the bourgeoisie and the access to knowledge, the social ascent of women, and always, the drollery and tenderness of Commedia dell'Arte.
