The group Arte Minima, founded in 2011 by Pedro Sousa Silva, stands out for its authentic interpretation of 15th, 16th and 17th century Portuguese music, with an approach based on academic research. Their work is based directly on original sources, avoiding modern transcriptions, with the aim of recreating Renaissance interpretative practices.
The Kyries tenebrarum is one of the oldest polyphonic works associated with the Portuguese Royal Chapel, dating back to the early 16th century. Currently preserved in the National Library in Naples, it represents a unique testimony to the Portuguese musical and liturgical tradition of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. It is a composition that reflects the practice of the Easter Triduum, in particular the office of darkness. This liturgy played a crucial role in the context of the Passion of Christ, symbolising mourning and meditation on the events that led to the crucifixion.
