IL FUTURO DEL PASSATO | Omaggio a Sara Levy

From 19 December 2024 to 19 December 2024/ Italy / Vigevano

A special manuscript can be found on the online database “Bach Digital” of the Leipzig Bach Archive, which has only recently been digitized and made accessible. The manuscript comes from Johann Sebastian Bach’s eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann and contains, among other things, the last ten bars of the Trio Sonata in D major (Fk 47) for two traverso flutes and basso continuo as well as fragments of another trio sonata (Fk 49) in the same instrumentation.
Among the previous owners of this manuscript is Sara Levy, who was known in Berlin from the 1790s onwards as a harpsichordist and later as a patron and collector of musical works. Her collection included nearly all the instrumental works of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach as well as works by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach, and numerous Baroque composers of the Berlin School. During her lifetime, Levy bequeathed this collection to the Berlin Singakademie.
