Heinrich Schütz - Cantiones Sacrae, Acadmy with Dame Emma Kirkby
From 13 July 2025 to 17 July 2025/ Austria / Graz
The Styriarte Festival is launching a new format: the ‘Palais Attems Vocal Academy’. Here, none other than Dame Emma Kirkby together with the ĀRT HOUSE leading continuo passes on all her experience of stylish baroque singing to young voices in order to bring a 400-year-old masterpiece to life: the ‘Cantiones Sacrae’ by Heinrich Schütz. In 1625, the Thirty Years' War was already entering its seventh year when Schütz dedicated his Latin motets to “the most honourable Prince Hans Ulrich, Lord of Krumau and Eggenberg” - a vision of peace between the hostile parties, written by the greatest Protestant musician of his time for the Catholic Emperor's advisor. What a feat. The ĀRT HOUSE continuo section Michael Hell, Georg Kroneis, and Sofie Vanden Eynde, who just finished recording their album SOUNDS OF EGGENBERG, will direct and accompany the young aspiring voices at display in Minoritensaal Graz July 17, 7pm, to end the academy with a true highlight.
