Dido & Aeneas, Purcell - Ensemble Les Timbres and soloists

08 October 2023/15h00/ France / Lannion

A work of intense dramatic power, this pocket opera takes us in less than an hour from the splendour of the Queen's court to the lair of the witches, from the bucolic calm of the forest to the trepidation of the harbour where the songs of the sailors burst forth. The plot explores a rich palette of moods: joy, happiness, nostalgia, cruelty, anguish, passion and despair. The music of the great Purcell lends its own rhythms, colours and accents to the diversity of places, characters and emotions. A French-style overture, dances, solos, duets and trios, no fewer than fifteen choruses resonate to pay tribute to the shattering fate of the Queen of Carthage.
This production performed by nine singers and eight musicians will feature in the first half pieces by English composers predating Purcell and will be an opportunity to rediscover this timeless work, considered one of the masterpieces of Baroque music.
