DANCE WORKSHOP: DEL PAS AL TRAÇ
07 September 2024/ Spain / Valencia
This activity consists of two parts: a preliminary lecture introducing attendees to the core musical universe of the handwritten dance manuals from the Catalan (and Iberian) schools of dance masters from the 16th and 17th centuries, followed by a workshop that delves into the choreographic practice of these repertoires. In this dance workshop, participants will learn the main movements and choreographic figures written and described in 16th and 17th-century choreographic documents. On one hand, the workshop covers the entrance and some changes of the pavane, a choreutic genre categorized as dances, distinguished from the genre of ballets by its forms and execution rituals. The formal structure of the pavane (Iberian), with its entrance, changes, and rebatuda cadence, allows the audience to approach the choreographic practice of Renaissance and Baroque dance in an accessible manner. On the other hand, to understand and practice the other main genre of the repertoire, the ballets or dances, the learning of La Valenciana will be addressed, a piece for which new documentary sources have been discovered and studied, enabling a better and more rigorous approach to its execution.
Who is it for?
The workshop is aimed at people of different levels in dance practice: professional and amateur dancers, musicians, musicologists, historians, performing arts interpreters, or anyone interested in exploring this dance repertoire in an accessible and enjoyable way.
