COPENHAGEN RENAISSANCE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2023

This year we celebrate the danish composer Mogens Pedersøn (1585-1623). Pedersøn was employed by King Christian IV and was sent to Venice twice to study with Giovanni Gabrieli. His output covers both madrigals and church music. Pedersøn is the first important Danish composer and much of his church music is still used in the danish churches today.
The festival presents seven concerts covering both music by Pedersøn as well as colleagues within the court of King Christian IV and contemporary composers from Venice. Ensembles are Musica Ficta (dk), Ensemble Zimmermann (dk), Scandinavian Cornetts & Sackbuts (dk/no/se), Ensemble Mare Balticum (se) and Adam Grauman & Susie Napper (se/ca).
