CONCERT: MILAGROS DE Nª SEÑORA - CAPELLA DE MINISTRERS
09 November 2024/ Spain / Cuenca
Final Concert of the UIMP Course: https://culturalcdm.eu/en/uimp-cuenca-2024-workshop/
The Miracles de Nostre Dame (MND) by Gautier de Coinci (1177-1236) have been identified as a key source for the miracles in Alfonso X’s Cantigas de Santa María (CSM). Gautier's work, with stories linked to French sanctuaries, may have inspired the Alfonsine compilers to adapt some of these miracles. Both songbooks combine miraculous stories with lyrical pieces, though in the CSM all cantigas are set to music, while in the MND music accompanies only certain chansons.
Capella de Ministrers' program presents the versions by Coinci and Alfonso X, exploring shared melodies and themes surrounding the Virgin Mary in the Middle Ages.
