- The story of William Tell
Ensemble Zweigulden
Philipp Wingeier (Renaissance drum, narration)
Rui Stähelin (lute)
Holly Scarborough (one-handed flute and drum, Renaissance transverse flute, conductor)
Wilhelm Tell - the brave hero of freedom!
Flute, drum, lute and song tell the legend in which Tell aims his crossbow at an apple above his son's head.
Verses from one of the earliest surviving versions, the song of the founding of the Swiss Confederation (1477), are translated into a sung form.
Hero and villain, father and son, oppression and freedom - Zweigulden
Zweigulden presents the saga in a way that predates Schiller's 1804 drama and Rossini's 1829 opera, and uses historical instruments to provide new insights into Renaissance history.
