Francesco Durante Vespro Solenne per la Festa di San Gennaro
The concert program collects sacred vocal compositions for four voices and continuo by Francesco Durante (1684-1755) together with some organ pages by Giovanni Salvatore (1610-1688) and Domenico Zipoli (1688-1726). It contains many reasons of interest and in-depth analysis around one of the most fruitful but, at the same time, most neglected periods of Italian musical history: the Neapolitan musical eighteenth century. A century of dazzling beauty, during which the city of Naples was universally considered the nerve center and the driving force of a musical activity of the highest level. The proposed Durantian compositions, therefore, are placed in the great bed of Neapolitan religious music of the eighteenth century, overflowing with masterpieces of undisputed artistic value that are still waiting to be re-proposed to the attention of the public through a patient and rigorous work of choice and critical revision.
The concert will be broadcast on the Turchini Live and REMA platforms on 21 March at 8pm on the occasion of the European Day of Early Music.
