Raffaele Pe & La Lira di Orfeo
17 December 2021
The cantatas for alto of this program are some of the most exciting peaks of Bach's production written for this register, as well as in its sacred production in general. With extraordinary pathos and cantability, they boldly combine different styles according to a sophisticated dramaturgy, from pathetic to chromatic, to dance, up to including some concertato parts with oboe d'amore or organ obligato. Composed for Ordinary Time both refer to eternal peace as the ultimate and glorious end of the life of the believer.
