‘Jauchzet, frohlocket - in kleiner Besetzung’ is the motto and at the same time the charm of the final Christmas programme of this year's workshop concerts. Even though sacred vocal music, especially
the great festivals of the church year in opulent forms with choir and orchestra, the tradition of the small sacred concert never completely broke down. Strings of the violin or viola da gamba family were usually the accompanying instruments for the solo vocal parts; in individual cases, such as the cantata series ‘Der Harmonische Gottesdienst’ by G. Ph. Telemann, they are written for the recorder or transverse flute.
