MESSA PER IL SANTISSIMO NATALE
09 December 2024/ Italy / TRIESTE
The heart of the programme is Alessandro Scarlatti's Messa per il Santissimo Natale (1707), a masterpiece of synthesis between the contrapuntal language of the church repertoire and the new concertante style. The soundscape of the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, for which Scarlatti composed this Mass, can also be traced back to the Sonate a tre da Chiesa by Arcangelo Corelli, who was serving as violinist there at the time.
