Concert "Musicalische Friedensseuffzer"

Our quest for peace remains unchanged. Wars have accompanied humanity since its origins. Most of the works on this programme were composed in the traumatic context of the Thirty Years' War and its terrible aftermath. Martin Luther expressed this call for peace magnificently in his chorale ‘Verleih’ uns Frieden gnädiglich’, a work in words and music that marked its era. This chorale spread rapidly and inspired numerous compositions, from his contemporaries to Bach. With a contemporary arrangement by Hamburg composer Karsten Gundermann, this programme establishes a link between this troubled past and our present.
