CONCERT: SIXENA - CAPELLA DE MINISTRERS
27 October 2024/17h30/ Switzerland / Muralto, Switzerland
A journey of great melodic richness in the feminine context of the Royal Monastery of Sijena (Huesca) founded in 1188 by Queen Sancha of Castile, wife of Alfonso II of Aragon, Nuns from the Sacred, Sovereign, and Illustrious Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem inhabited it from the beginning. At three of the most significant times of the year: the feast of St. John the Baptist. The celebration of the Mandatum on Maundy Thursday, which the queen cared so much about systematizing as an example of dedication to the poor in a hospital foundation, is re-enacted. And then the intensity of Easter with the performance of the Visitatio sepulchri, also known as the “singing of the Easter angels.” A proposal based on the study of the sources, allows for the recreation of a careful and particular practice of women's monastic singing that has “traveled” for centuries as a symbol of identity.
