CONCERT: AL TAYR ENSEMBLE | EL VIATGE D'ABENDINO

El Viatge d’Abendino tells the story of a Sephardic Jew’s exodus from his native Granada to Constantinople, following the expulsion ordered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. During his journey across the Mediterranean, Abendino encounters a variety of cultural, religious, and musical realities, not without dangers, until he settles permanently in Constantinople. The program combines Renaissance and medieval compositions (drawn from the Cancionero de Palacio and the Codex Squarcialupi, among others) with traditional Sephardic repertoire, Andalusian classical music, and pieces from oral traditions of the Balkans and Anatolia, using both historical and traditional instruments from the various Mediterranean cultures.
