    Saturday 2 February 2019 - 11pm [ITALY]

As part of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci (1452–1519), Early Music at Casa Cozzi presents a series of events focusing on the evolution of musical thinking in relation to scientific thinking, from the Middle Ages until Galileo Galilei’s (1564–1642) observations. The concert scheduled for Friday 1 February at 9pm, …principia dai sentimenti, will take us on a journey through sound conceived by Leonardo da Vinci. This is an idea of Polish musician Sławomir Zubrzycki, who built a musical instrument designed by the Renaissance artist in the Codex Atlanticus: the viola organista, which looks like a piano and sounds like a cello. In 2009 Sławomir Zubrzycki, – pianist, claviolinist, composer, and constructor of musical instruments–, came across the traces of a real rarity: the keyboard-bowed instrument designed by Leonardo da Vinci, but which had almost been unknown and forgotten. Fascinated by the facts from the past, in the years 2009 – 2012 Zubrzycki created his own version of Leonardo da Vinci’s design, drawing also on other instruments from 1575 – 1625.

On Saturday 2 February, at 11am, the musician will meet at a conference open to the general public.

     PIANOLAinPRIMETIME - AMUZ [BE]

If you want to listen to music today without being able to play an instrument yourself, it is a simple matter of turning on the radio or scrolling down the Spotify list. At the turn of the twentieth century though, before radios were a common feature of people’s living rooms, the pianola was the solution of choice: an automatic piano that played with the help of a perforated paper roll. PIANOLAinPRIMETIME presents various facets of this fascinating and magical mechanical piano. Famous masters come back to life and ‘impossible’ music takes you into an undiscovered world of sound. The pianola will accompany silent films, and AMUZ itself will be converted into an authentic dance hall. Come and discover the pianola and its astonishingly diverse repertoire!
