The following recommendations were drawn up by REMA in December 2009. REMA, the European early music network, represents 66 members in 21 European countries, all organisers of early music concerts or festivals. Its aim is to promote and encourage the broadcasting of Early Music. The Early Music sector is quite fragile as it is very often a marginal aspect of programming in theatres, operas and in concert halls or musical seasons. Although artistic education is not REMA’s primary objective, the majority of its members have educational aims and, through their activities, sense a fundamental need to improve access to early music and help to raise awareness of early music among children and young people. These recommendations are the result of the conclusions of the round table discussion entitled “Education and raising awareness of early music among children and young people” organised by REMA on Wednesday 3 June 2009 at Stallet, Nybrokajen 11, Stockholm.
