REMA MEMBERS' CHARTER
European Year for combating poverty and social exclusion 2010
Poverty and social exclusion not only harm individuals' well-being and ability to participate in society, but also have an adverse affect on economic development. Collective responsibility for combating poverty lies not just with the decision-makers, but also with all those who intervene in the public and private sector.
The European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion aims to raise awareness among the general public of the situations of people faced with poverty, particularly those from vulnerable groups or backgrounds, and will help promote real access to social, economic and cultural rights, as well as to adequate resources and high-quality services. It also aims to combat stereotypes and stigmatisation.
The members of REMA recognise:
- the fundamental right of people in situations of poverty and social exclusion to live in dignity and play an active role in society, by promoting real access to rights, particularly cultural rights;
- shared responsibility in encouraging each and every European citizen to help combat poverty and social exclusion;
- the need to get involved with civil society and non-governmental organisations that work to combat poverty and social exclusion.
By signing this charter, the members of REMA hereby agree to:
We must renew our commitment to solidarity, social justice and better integration.
