Les Fêtes d’été de la musique ancienne est le seul festival, à Prague et en
Bohême, qui peut se prévaloir d’être la vitrine de la musique, de résonnance à

la fois
artistique et historique. Le Festival offre une scène aux interprètes étrangers les plus
éminents pour se produire à Prague. Accompagnés d’une thématique nouvelle
chaque année, la programmation innovante et les premières – premières en
République tchèque mais aussi premières mondiales – représentent une part
importante des projets artistiques. Le Festival est unique en son genre pour explorer
le champ du théâtre et de la danse baroque. Costumes d’époque, chorégraphies
originales, rhétorique et gestuelle baroques font la particularité des productions
présentées. Le Festival a également à

coeur de faire le lien entre architecture des
lieux de représentations et musique jouée. L’environnement architectural et
historique à Prague favorise une atmosphère si spécifique et caractéristique qui a
aussi ses origines dans le jeu sur instruments anciens. Concerts et représentations,
qui prennent par exemple place au Monastère Břevnov, au Château Troja ou dans
différentes églises pragoises, ont rencontré un grand succès. Depuis leur création en
2000, les témoignages positifs du public et de la presse démontrent que les Fêtes
d’été

de la musique ancienne, sont devenues un rendez-vous incontournable de la
scène musicale estivale à Prague. Le Festival fait partie de ces événements, de
renommée internationale, qui placent Prague parmi les métropoles culturelles les
plus importantes d’Europe.

Prague, July 22 – August 8, 2010
The Summer Festivities of Early Music form the only festival showcase of music of
historic artistic styles in Prague and Central Bohemia. The Festival is the gateway
through which leading interpreters from abroad make their entry into Prague. Thanks
to a thematic, innovative dramaturgy, modern premieres – not only for the Czech
Republic, but world premieres too – represent a high percentage of festival projects.
The Festival is unique in its reach into the field of baroque theatre and dance. A
characteristic part of these productions are the period costumes, original
choreography, and baroque gesture, rhetoric and makeup.
One of the priorities of the Festival is to link beautiful architecture with music of
corresponding styles. The unique historic surroundings facilitate an unmistakeable
atmosphere which has its origins in the performance of music on original instruments,
and the unusual acoustic experiences linked with it. Concerts and performances – set
for example in such venues as the Břevnov Monastery, Troja Chateau and lesser
known Prague churches, as well as the fabulous outdoor settings of the Ledeburg
and Vrtba Gardens – have met with great success.
Responses from both public and press have shown again and again that the Summer
Festivities of Early Music have, since their founding in 2000, become an inseparable
part of the Prague summer music scene. Its events are renowned internationally, and
help to place Prague among the leading cultural metropolises of Europe.
