MAfestival (Festival of Flanders – Bruges)
The Festival of Flanders – Bruges, also called MAfestival, is one of the most important early music festivals. It focuses on the historical informed practice of early music and is currently leading in terms of renewing and extending the concept. Besides an international ten-day festival marked by a selection of the world’s most exciting performers, MAfestival also organizes a competition for young musicians and an exhibition that focuses on historical instruments, instruments made to historical examples and musical accessories.
Since 1964 the Flanders Festival Bruges organizes the famous International Contest "Musica Antiqua", which is open to young, highly qualified performers from all over the world, who specialize in the historically informed performance practice.
The purpose is not to stress the element of competition but rather to stimulate the highest level of execution. We are confronting young performers with their peers, with their masters and with the public. In 2013, the competition for fortepiano takes place between 1st and 8th of August.
